  • Learn Japanese Music – Special School Caravan

Starting this 2016 Fall semester, the Consulate-General of Japan in Atlanta would like to announce a new opportunity for schools offering Music classes. In this special edition of our School Caravan, students will have the chance to experience Japanese culture in the musical sphere!screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-19-15-03

In this Caravan workshop, specifically geared toward music students, our consulate staff will introduce and present on music and instruments traditionally used as accompaniment in Japanese festivals. Students will have a hands-on experience learning Japanese musical notation, tempo, and scales (as they differ from Western music) and then use this knowledge to perform, with staff guidance, a short piece of traditional festival music with the authentic Japanese flute (fuè), small taiko drums (shimè-daiko), and hand-bell (kanè).
