Synopsis

In 2013 and 2014, Japan was the #1 direct foreign investing country to the US and as the US fourth largest trading partner, Japan’s future economic growth will impact the US. The presentation will summarize current challenges of nearly two decades of low growth including the aging population and the declining workforce numbers in Japan. As the first Japanese American Leadership Delegate from North Carolina sponsored by the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the presenter will discuss his perspectives those of government and business leaders in Hiroshima and Tokyo whom he met with. While Japan is showing signs of economic improvements, questions remains as to whether Japan will transform to higher levels of economic growth given proposed changes in corporate governance, women in the workplace, immigration and entrepreneurialism.
